Samsung Gear S2 pricing likely to be comparable to Apple Watch Sport

According to the retail giant’s placeholder online, the regular black version of the Samsung Gear S2 will cost €379 ($422), while the Classic is going to cost €449 ($500). This puts it head-to-head with the Apple Watch.

Apple’s cheapest Watch Sport (38mm with sport band) costs €399, some €20 more than the cheapest Samsung Gear S2. As for the Classic, at €449 it’s exactly the same price as Apple’s cheapest 42mm Sport. Notably, the Classic is far cheaper than Apple’s stainless Watch.

If we were to speculate on US pricing, it’s probably safe to assume that when it lands on the market in October, the Classic Gear S2 will cost around $399, while the standard Gear S2 will be below or around the $320 mark. Of course, we can’t be certain on any of this Stateside pricing until Samsung officially confirms it.

As it stands, the Gear S2 will be compatible with virtually any Android smartphone from the past couple of years, although Samsung has stated that it is join Android Wear devices in being cross-platform, aiming squarely at iPhone users and taking market share away from the Apple Watch.
