A pair of Chromebook updates today highlight their broad usage across personal and enterprise, starting with Roblox enhancements.
On the consumer front, Roblox is getting an x86 version that results in 2x faster performance. This includes smoother gameplay (frame rate increases) and quicker load times for the login screen, homepage, and games.
Google notes how “Roblox continues to be one of the most popular immersive gaming and creation platforms on Chromebooks.” To that end, ChromeOS players can now get two free in-game items:
- “…special Chrome jetpack for your avatar that lets you soar through the skies.”
- “…the “Chromebook Cruiser” in the popular Roblox game, Bloxburg– unlocking a hoverboard for super speedy ground travel.”
Meanwhile, enterprise customers will benefit from AI features in the Google Admin console. Chrome Admin assistance is a Gemini-powered chatbot — accessed from the top-right corner — to aid device management and automate routine tasks. Admins can just enter natural-language queries into the side panel instead of having to browse menus.
For instance, you can inquire about the status of a specific device, request a screenshot for troubleshooting purposes, or even initiate a reboot to resolve minor issues – all directly within the chat window.
Chrome Admin is available as a trusted tester program for US-based users.
Meanwhile, natural language processing is also coming to some Google Admin search fields. For example, “devices with low RAM” is translated to “Total RAM between 1GB and 4GB.” This is rolling out over the next few weeks.
Finally, Related Settings will “appear when admins click into a policy details page” For example, “looking at microphone control settings will also surface audio output settings as well.”
