Google Messages is starting to roll out ‘Delete for everyone’

Google Messages for Android is getting the ability to delete a chat message for everyone in a group RCS conversation.

As we previously spotted in February, deleting a message will present two options:

  • Delete for everyone
  • Delete for me

The latter is the existing behavior, while the first one will let you truly remove something that was sent to another contact/everyone. That said, Google does note how “Messages may still be seen by others on older app versions.”

More broadly, Universal Profile 2.7 lets users “Edit, Recall and Delete message that they sent earlier for themselves and the message recipient.”

According to beta release, this option is only appearing in one group conversation that is on the larger side at 12 people. Smaller chats and 1-to-1 conversations currently lack this option.

Google Messages’ Delete for everyone is not appearing on devices we checked today. Google is also working on other group chat features like joining via invite links and QR codes, as well as @-mentions.
