The new Gemini logo continues to roll out today, while Google has made a tweak to the model picker that prioritizes function over version.
Our best look at the logo comes from Gemini’s about page. The new color palette is primarily blue at the right with a gradient that morphs into red at the top, yellow at the left, and green below.
Notably, Google has softened the sparkle’s points. It was previously quite sharp, with the new version more inviting. The old visual issue was how the points would look like a thin line at small sizes.
The website has other examples of the new logo in action, but the Android, iOS, or web apps have yet to be updated.
What’s new today is an update to the model picker on Android and the web. The name now appears underneath the description, with Gemini emphasizing what each model is suited for:
- Fast all-around help: 2.5 Flash
- Reasoning, math & code: 2.5 Pro
- Based on your Search history: Personalization (preview)
In the long-term, it seems like we’re heading towards having just one model, and no longer requiring users to manually pick. Until then (in the near future), the Flash and Pro distinction continues to make sense. Meanwhile, “Personalization” that taps into your Search history, Gmail, and other first-party services will presumably be available across all models. Gemini this year already moved Deep Research and other features from the model picker to the prompt box.
