LG is long gone at this point, but the company isn’t quite done supporting its existing smartphones. Today, LG has released the Android 12 update for the LG V50 ThinQ in the US.

Over the past few years, LG has been in hot water pretty often when it comes to Android updates. The company announced an “Update Center” which did essentially nothing, but slowly, LG is getting better. Right now, the company deserves a bit of credit: LG has rolled out Android 10 to the past 2 years of its flagship phones.
Over the last few years, LG has garnered a reputation for updating their Android devices at a significantly slower pace than nearly all of their competitors. With Google I/O 2020 now on the horizon, most likely bringing the next major Android version, LG has finally announced a timeline for more of their devices to get the Android 10 update, including the LG V50 and G8X ThinQ.
Right on the heels of the LG G8 ThinQ receiving the Android 10 update, the LG V50 ThinQ is now joining the update party in South Korea.
LG’s track record with major Android updates isn’t exactly great, but the company is getting started on its Android 10 update. This week, it announced a beta program for Android 10 on the LG G8 ThinQ.
Google released Android 10 on its Pixel devices earlier this month, but it will be some time before many other OEMs catch up, because they each want to bring their own look and feel to Android. LG, one of the many phone makers working on an update, has had multiple Android 10 screenshots leak out, showing their progress.
As Verizon pushes forward with 5G, it’s also launching more devices to support the faster network. Later this week, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G lands on Verizon Wireless as its second smartphone with 5G built-in.
The LG V50 ThinQ made its somewhat unexpected debut just announced that, in its home country of Korea, the LG V50 is being delayed until further notice.
The LG V50 ThinQ looks to be a great handset and has all the hallmarks of an excellent device. The problem is that unlike the LG G8 ThinQ, it really doesn’t have any truly standout features unless you count the optional folding gamepad as part of the entire package.
