DJI’s latest Fly app update (v1.19.0) has arrived, and it’s bringing plenty of fresh smarts, especially for the company’s newest mini drone, the DJI Neo 2. The update not only enables full compatibility with the Neo 2 but also introduces a batch of intelligent flight features that make piloting easier, smoother, and a lot more fun.
Version 1.19.0 officially adds support for DJI Neo 2, connecting seamlessly with RC-N2, RC-N3, and RC 2 controllers, or even letting users fly via Wi-Fi directly from their phones — no remote needed. But that’s just the start.
The update introduces a suite of intelligent flight functions tailored for Neo 2, including:
- SelfieShot: capture selfies from multiple angles with a single tap.
- Gesture controls: extend your palm to recall the drone or adjust its position midair.
- Customizable mode sets: experiment with creative presets like MasterShots or Cycling Follow for dynamic footage.
- Freer ActiveTrack: switch tracking directions on the fly, giving creators more flexibility in framing.
DJI also mentions improved voice recognition, signaling a continued focus on making drones more responsive to natural commands.
Unveiled this week in China, the DJI Neo 2 builds on the original Neo’s simple phone-controlled design but levels up every aspect of it. At just 151 grams, it’s featherlight yet impressively capable — fitting somewhere between a toy and a pro mini drone.
Equipped with omnidirectional obstacle sensing and a forward-facing LiDAR sensor, the Neo 2 can detect walls, trees, and poles in every direction and automatically stop before hitting them. Combined with fully enclosed propeller guards, it’s arguably one of DJI’s safest beginner drones to date.
The drone also shines when it comes to camera performance. Its upgraded 12MP 1/2-inch CMOS sensor captures 4K/60fps video, with an option for 4K/100fps slow motion and vertical 2.7K video for Reels and TikToks. A new dual-axis gimbal ensures stability, while 49GB of internal storage and Wi-Fi transfer speeds up to 80MB/s make exporting clips quick and painless.
Neo 2’s Smart Selfie and Riding Follow modes make it a “flying photographer” that tracks runners or cyclists up to 27 mph, automatically keeping subjects in frame. With palm takeoff, gesture control, and a tiny built-in display, even first-time fliers can capture cinematic shots without fumbling with settings. And the best part? At under 250g, recreational users won’t need to register it with the FAA.
For now, though, US customers will have to wait. While the Neo 2 already passed FCC certification, DJI’s ongoing trade and regulatory challenges could delay a US debut. Still, with this Fly app update already prepped for the model, it feels like the company’s quietly getting ready for lift-off, whenever the skies clear.
