Reducing the non-participation in the labour force and unemployment among young people – including addressing the NEETs (young people not in employment, education or training) phenomenon – is an important objective for the European Union.
The Council Recommendation on a Quality Framework for Traineeships has been the reference framework to promote quality traineeships in the EU. Following an in-depth evaluation of this Framework, on 20 March 2024, the Just Transition Fund will support youth employment in the EU with a further EUR 150 million in 2021-2027.
