Priyanka Chopra’s Musical Comeback: Desi ‘Last Christmas’ for ‘Christmas Karma’ Gets Fans Buzzing Online

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has made a musical comeback just in time for the festive season with a desi twist on George Michael’s classic ‘Last Christmas.’ The Hindi-English rendition, created for Gurinder Chadha’s upcoming film Christmas Karma releasing on November 14, has sparked mixed reactions online. While many fans are thrilled to see Priyanka return to singing after nearly a decade, others remain divided over her bilingual take on the beloved Christmas hit.

Priyanka Chopra’s latest song, Last Christmas (Desi Version), is part of acclaimed filmmaker Gurinder Chadha’s upcoming family musical Christmas Karma, which hits theatres in the UK, Ireland, and the US on November 14. The festive reimagining blends Indian musical elements with the charm of Wham!’s timeless Christmas classic, adding a vibrant cultural layer to the film’s soundtrack.

The Christmas Karma (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), releasing alongside the film, celebrates the UK’s rich and diverse music scene. Alongside Priyanka’s track, the album features songs by Gary Barlow, Billy Porter, Nitin Sawhney, Shaznay Lewis, Pixie Lott, Boy George, and more. Online reactions to Priyanka’s version have been mixed, while some fans appreciate her bold bilingual twist, others are less enthusiastic about the fusion approach.

In a heartfelt statement, Priyanka Chopra Jonas said she was thrilled to support her friend Gurinder Chadha and hoped her “desi twist” to a beloved Christmas anthem would connect with audiences. Chadha, a self-confessed George Michael fan, expressed gratitude to his estate for allowing this reinterpretation, adding that she hoped Michael “will enjoy this track in heaven” as fans worldwide embrace its Hindi vibe.

Priyanka’s return to music also revives her artistic roots. She first entered the international music scene in 2012 with In My City featuring will.i.am, followed by Exotic with Pitbull in 2013, though her singing career began in 2002 with Ullathai Killathe in the Tamil film Tamizhan. For Chopra, music remains deeply personal, a tribute to her late father, Dr. Ashok Chopra, whose dream she continues to fulfill with every note.
