WOMAN LOSES LEG AS CAR JUMPS CURB

A Staten Island woman lost a leg yesterday when a car driven by an unlicensed teen hit another vehicle, jumped a curb and smashed into her, police said.

Patricia Doherty, 51, was walking on Foster Road in the Prince’s Bay section when she was struck by a car driven by 19-year-old Vincent Torres, police said.

She lost her left leg, but was in stable condition at Staten Island University North Hospital.

Torres ran a stop sign before the accident, police said.

He allegedly tried to drive away from the scene, and got out of the car and fled on foot when his engine died. Cops ran a check on Torres’ license plate and went to his home, also on Staten Island, and arrested him.

He was charged with vehicular assault, driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident.
