WASHINGTON – Vietnam War hero Sen. John McCain yesterday asked President Bush to denounce a hard-hitting ad featuring anti-Kerry Vietnam vets who served in the Navy with the Democratic candidate and paint him as a cowardly liar.
McCain (R-Ariz.) described the ad as “dishonest and dishonorable.”
Kerry’s lawyers, meanwhile, are threatening suits to try to block TV stations from airing the ad, which is independent of the Bush campaign. They say it’s “libelous” because the vets never served on Kerry’s boat – although the ad says only that they served “with John Kerry.”
