ALBANY – Gov. Pataki signed into a law yesterday a measure toughening fines for owners of dogs that cause serious injury.
Elijah’s Law, named for Elijah Torres, a Bronx 3-year-old attacked by a 100-pound Rottweiler in 2003, ups the maximum fine from $800 to $1,500.
It also raises the maximum for an attack by a dog previously determined to be dangerous from $1,000 to $3,000.
Pataki also signed a law banning online hunting, the use of the Internet to pay for the right to fire weapons at targets or animals in remote locations.
