KILLER CANARY TO WALK

A killer who helped nail a vicious Staten Island child kidnapper has won his own bid for freedom – apparently with the help of the District Attorney’s Office, The Post has learned.

Larry Krebs, 37, is serving five to 15 years for the savage slashing death of Glenn Weeks, 42, on a Staten Island street during a 2001 drug dispute.

Just two years after Krebs finally helped authorities crack one of the borough’s most notorious cases – the 1981 kidnapping of 7-year-old Holly Ann Hughes – he has been granted his first request for freedom by the state Parole Division.

The body of Holly Ann – who was presumed murdered – was never found, and Krebs testified that suspect Andre Rand told him cops were looking in the wrong place.

Krebs is scheduled to be released next month, after serving only five years for killing Weeks, a father of three and convicted felon who was bleeding so profusely from his neck after being stabbed that doctors thought he had been shot.

“[Krebs] was very cooperative with the DA in the Rand case . . . He helped them out,” said Krebs’ lawyer, Joseph LaMattina.

The Staten Island DA’s Office confirmed it sent a letter to the state Parole Board in Krebs’ case, but wouldn’t reveal its contents.
