Brooklyn families plagued by domestic violence will no longer be bounced from court to court, thanks to a new program that handles criminal, family and matrimonial cases all in the same room with the same judge.
The Kings County Integrated Domestic Violence Court, which was officially opened yesterday, will bring a compassionate approach to those who need it most, said Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes, whose family was plagued by domestic violence when he was a child.
“The treatment we received was barbaric,” he said. “No one really cared. The DA’s office didn’t care. The cops didn’t care. The court personnel, the judges, no one really cared.”
