If you’re bonkers for bison and have at least $100,000 to burn, your name could forever be linked with the herd that repopulated the West.
The Bronx Zoo is auctioning the right to name its historic herd of a dozen bison, the descendents of animals used to bring bison back from the brink of extinction a century ago.
“We can’t think of a New Yorker right now who can say they have a herd of bison,” said zoo spokeswoman Alison Power.
The zoo has auctioned naming rights to individual animals before, starting with a baby rhino and zebra. But at its annual gala on Wednesday, it will for the first time naming rights of an entire herd of animals will be sold in perpetuity.
