DRIVE TO STOP LAX LICENSING

Two relatives of 9/11 victims joined state Sen. Martin Golden yesterday to warn that terrorists would have a field day if Gov. Spitzer relaxes the state’s tough requirements for getting a driver’s license.

Golden said Spitzer had made a campaign promise last year to “relax that law” – imposed by former Gov. George Pataki after the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center – which requires applicants for a license to provide verifiable Social Security numbers.

“My question to Gov. Spitzer is: Are you going to help the terrorists by giving them the licenses they so desperately need and want?” asked Peter Gadiel, who lost his son James in the 9/11 attacks.

He was joined by Al Regenhard, who lost his firefighter son.

Golden, a Brooklyn Republican, said he’s prepared to introduce a bill to block Spitzer from making any changes.

“Before moving forward on any proposal, we would do an exhaustive review of all security-related matters,” said Spitzer spokeswoman Christine Anderson.
