A Long Island man called relatives in the middle of the night and asked them to come get his baby – and then killed his wife and himself, police said.
Suffolk County cops said Michael Gilbert, 42, a construction worker who lived in Mastic Beach with his wife Melanie, 34, called family members at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday and asked them to pick up their 15-month-old son.
They thought the request was odd and called cops.
As a uniformed officer climbed the front steps of the home, he heard a shot. Investigators later found the couple dead in the bedroom. Their son was found unharmed in an adjacent bedroom.
