Even his haters will find it hard to knock the latest from Brooklyn’s Fabolous. On Fab’s fourth CD, the MC is rapping about the usual themes: cash money, thug justice and an appreciation of the finer blings in life.
He keeps old-school topics fresh with big orchestral pop arrangements – not to mention A-list guests, from Akon to Jay-Z. But one of the best tracks is the simple drum-and-organ reggae duet with Junior Reid, “Gangster Don’t Play.”
The disc’s peak is the Fab-Akon duet “Change Up” where the main rhyme asks if it’s going to be “hugs or slugs” for a guy . . . probably a fan if Akon is involved.
