‘APPRENTICE’ WITH A HEART

The reality-show genre made a positive real-world contribution last week.

Piers Morgan – a British journalist and talent show judge – won “The Celebrity Apprentice,” a version of Donald Trump’s “business principles” game.

In this edition, celebrities sought to raise money for their favorite charities.

Morgan, whose British Army brother has served in Iraq, chose an especially admirable cause: The Intrepid Museum Fallen Heroes Fund.

New York’s philanthropic Fisher family – which has been assisting members of the US armed forces and their families for decades – first created the fund to help out families of servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

More recently, the fund provided seed money for the $50 million Warrior and Family Support Center that opened last year in San Antonio, Texas.

As The Post’s Ralph Peters reported last fall, the center is a world-class facility focused on medical and rehabilitative care for those wounded in service to America – with special emphasis on the care of amputees and burn victims.

Morgan played the “Apprentice” game tough, not making too many friends with the other contestants – including the likeable, straight-laced all-American runner-up, country singer Trace Adkins.

But, as Trump noted, Morgan stayed focused on his goal: In the process, he invited 20 servicemen and women to the show’s final event and ultimately raised more than $500,000 for the fund.

Kudos to Morgan for selecting and publicizing such a worthy charity.
