The three presidential contenders will get a chance to face off with the US military chief at hearings next week.
Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama sit on Senate panels that will be questioning Army Gen. David Petraeus, if he testifies, as expected, about the Iraq war before Congress on Tuesday and Wednesday.
McCain, the GOP nominee in all but name, backs the current strategy, and believes Petraeus feels the same way.
The Democrats are expected to rip the war, which has cost more than 4,000 American lives .
“It is time to end this war as quickly and responsibly as possible,” Clinton said last month.
And fellow Democrat Obama is one record as calling the war a “simply unsustainable and intolerable situation.”
