Agent Arn Tellem told The Post he plans to meet with both the Mets and Yankees this week “about all our free agents,” a crop that includes Joel Pineiro, Randy Wolf, Rich Harden and Hideki Matsui.
Tellem said he will arrive in Indianapolis, the site of the winter meetings, tomorrow.
After John Lackey, Pineiro and Wolf are two of the best free-agent starters on the market. Right-handed Pineiro went 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA with the Cardinals this past season, and the lefty Wolf went 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA with the Dodgers.
Harden is an intriguing option, but the powerful righty is questionable in terms of his durability, which could be problematic for the Mets. Injury-plagued Harden, who’s 28 years old, went 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA for the Cubs this past season, but in 2008 he went a combined 10-2 with a 2.07 ERA for the A’s and Cubs. Harden owns an outstanding 50-29 career record, but he’s started more than 26 games in a season once in his career, in 2004.
Matsui was the World Series MVP, but the Yankees are in a difficult spot with the DH, because both he and Johnny Damon are free agents. Neither is certain to return, and it’s unlikely both would.
