Border chaos: From San Antonio to Sderot, bullets to katyushas

The deadly Mexican drug war continues to spill across the US border and it is getting more dangerous. US border patrol agents actually got into a “fire fight” across the Rio Grande near Mission, Texas, firing bullets into Mexico, while giving chase during a major drug bust. Border agency spokeswoman Rosalinda Huey said agents shot back in response to gunfire directed at them. “The firing they received came from the Mexican side,” Huey said.

And this is not the first incident of this kind. “Reports of bullets whizzing across the border from Mexico also are on the rise. At least eight bullets have been fired into El Paso in the last few weeks from the rising violence in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.”

Eight bullets have been fired into El Paso, Texas. What if that number were 8,000? And what if those bullets were rockets instead and every day the residents of El Paso were threatened with violence and death? Such a situation would seem to qualify as a major security problem that required a significant military response, no?

Actually, this all sounds somewhat familiar. Ah, yes. Thousands of rockets have been fired over the years over another border and into a city of unarmed civilians: into Sderot, Israel and the surrounding area. And, in fact, video of one recent attack on a children’s rehabilitation hospital.

Can you imagine what would happen if the cross-border violence from Mexico started to look even remotely like the Gaza-Israel border?
