Some food for thought

Think long and hard about what it feels like to devour that candy bar — and you’ll eat less of it.

A Carnegie Mellon University study in Science magazine has upended long-held assumptions that thinking about food makes you crave it more.

Instead, imagining the consumption of a piece of chocolate will make you eat smaller portions, researchers found.

“Engaging in the mental act of eating can reduce the type of food we’re interested in eating,” said lead researcher Dr. Carey Morewedge.
