The gun used to kill Tinseltown publicist Ronnie Chasen in a shocking murder that gripped Hollywood for weeks had been stolen from a cop, it was reported last night.
The entertainment Web site thewrap.com said that as a result of the discovery, cops in Beverly Hills, where Chasen was slain on Nov.16, have finally closed the case.
The murder weapon was a revolver stolen from a cop during a burglary in the San Fernando valley, according to the report.
Chasen, a native New Yorker, was hit by four bullets fired into her car during a botched robbery as she returned from a premiere party for the movie “Burlesque.” Cops identified the gunman as a lowlife ex-con named Harold Smith who later blew his brains out with the same gun.
The murder had sparked a slew of theories — including suggestions Chasen was killed by a professional hit man or in a drive-by gang shooting.
