The Iraqis want the rest of their half-assed ex-dictator.
The Baghdad government is demanding that former British special-forces officer Nigel “Spud’’ Ely, 52, return a bronze butt that once graced the rear end of a giant statue of Saddam Hussein that loomed over Baghdad.
Ely said he was guarding a camera crew filming joyous Iraqis tearing down the tyrant’s statue when he approached a US Marine and identified himself as an “old soldier.’’
The Leatherneck, he said, started to pry off a section of the toppled statue for him — but that wasn’t the trophy he was after.
“No, can I have his ass?” Eli asked.
“We smashed away’’ and one of Saddam’s two butts came off, he said.
But the Baghdad government considers the piece a part of the country’s “cultural antiquity.’’
Ely said he’s since turned it into a work of art, which he’s hoping to sell for around $400,000.
He said he’d divide his profits between US and British charities aiding wounded vets.
