A new plan to put ads on the back of yellow-cab receipts isn’t sitting well with many drivers — because they wouldn’t get a cut of the profits.
“We all know drivers get nickel-and-dimed in this industry, but this is ridiculous,” said Bhairavi Desai, the head of the Taxi Workers Alliance.
Under proposed rules, the technology vendors who install credit-card machines in cabs would likely reap the profits from the ads.
Taxi Commissioner David Yassky — who wants drivers to earn some of the ad money — said his agency is studying the issue before moving forward.
