Jeremy Lin’s success proves that even people from ordinary backgrounds can achieve greatness so long as the passion and dreams are there (“Lin-Phomania,” Feb. 20).
As the Book of Proverbs states, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is.” If you visualize, expect and hope for certain greatness in yourself, eventually it will manifest.
Though I’m Muslim, I respect this young Christian for demonstrating that hard work and faith are still a winning recipe, even in our increasingly godless society.

Lin is a legend in New York in two weeks, and the Garden is electric.
Lebron James never realized that if he came to the Knicks two summers ago, every game would have been like this. New York is so famished for a successful basketball team that had Lebron delivered a championship, he would have been a legend here.

Can the Lin-style ball-distribution teamwork work for other teams?
It would be great for basketball if more teams could spread the ball around and win with a team game instead of a star game.

When we are mesmerized by sports stories of rags to riches or zero to hero, we’ re not just pulling for that particular athlete, but for all those people who have had all the odds against them.
Everyone can relate to the concept of being the proverbial underdog.
Thus Tim Tebow becomes more than a quarterback with an elongated throwing motion and Lin becomes more than an Asian-American Harvard graduate who can play ball with the best.
When we see Lin dribbling up the court or Tebow running for a 10-yard gain, we see ourselves overcoming the odds and we know, deep down, that there is indeed hope.
