Jets’ Po’uha out for duration of preseason with tight back

CORTLAND – Sione Po’uha expects to miss the rest of the preseason with a tight back.

Po’uha hasn’t practiced in two weeks, since suffering a cut above his left eye that required stitches. In the meantime, the defensive tackle has developed the back issue, which has caused him to be absent from practice multiple times this week. Po’uha said that he expects to be ready in time for the regular season opener on Sept. 9 against the Bills, and that if his rehab progresses better than expected, he could be back sooner.

Rex Ryan said Tuesday that Po’uha went to get his back examined in New York one of the days he’s missed practice, and Po’uha confirmed that when he went to New York he got an MRI exam, which showed nothing, leaving the diagnosis of a tight back. Ryan believes he will be ready for the regular-season opener, though.

Po’uha said that when he hasn’t been present at practice, he’s been working out in the pool.

He also joked that his back issue has nothing to do with the beds here at SUNY-Cortland, after several Giants players complained about the beds on their way out of SUNY-Albany on Tuesday.
