The Jon Severe sweepstakes took another turn Tuesday.
The talented shooting guard from Christ the King, the city’s top senior and New York State’s Mr. Basketball, told The Post he will be meeting with new Rutgers men’s basketball coach Eddie Jordan Tuesday night, hours before he will announce his college choice and just after Jordan is introduced as Rutgers new coach.
The 6-foot-2 Brooklyn resident, who led the Royals to a city and state title this season, recently shaved his list to four: Fordham, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest, but with the naming of Jordan as coach and him retaining top city recruiter Van Macon, Severe is willing to listen.
He will announce his decision Wednesday at Christ the King at 2:30 p.m.
Severe said all five schools are options, and he has yet to make up his mind. Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon was at Christ the King on Monday to meet with Severe.
Christ the King coach Joe Arbitello recently praised the job Fordham has done recruiting Severe. They sent three coaches to Albany for the state tournament in late March and The Bronx school has made it clear how much they want the sharpshooter.
“Fordham has recruited him the hardest,” Arbitello recently said. “Their head coach [Tom Pecora] has made himself more visible than anyone else.”
Rutgers was in the mix for Severe before the Mike Rice scandal broke out, when a video was released showing the former coach abusing players. Rutgers has already lost five players — Eli Carter, Mike Poole, Vincent Garrett, Malick Kone and Jerome Seagears — so the Scarlet Knights can offer Severe immediate playing time in the backcourt alongside sophomore guard Myles Mack.
Severe recently said he was looking for a school that could ofer immediate playing time and a coaching staff he felt comfortable with.
