Battery on track snarls R train

A battery on the subway tracks in Lower Manhattan stalled an R train for almost an hour on Wednesday, authorities said.

The train was going downtown about 7:50 p.m. into the Whitehall station when the motorman had to halt service because a battery had been left on the rails.

Stuck riders had to wait for FDNY to come and take it off the tracks, according to MTA workers.

The R train was brought into Rector Street 50 minutes later, and passengers were finally able to get off there.
