Ronda Rousey is getting ready to rumble — against Holly Holm, that is.
The UFC women’s bantamweight champion will square off against Holm, a former boxing champ, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Jan. 2.
“Jan. 2 I’m going to be fighting Holly Holm, who is actually the most decorated striker we have in all of mixed martial arts,” Rousey announced on “Good Morning America” Friday morning. “Not [just in] the women’s division, not [just in] the bantamweight division, like 19-time boxing world champion Holly Holm, was the Ring Magazine pound-for-pound female fighter of the year and definitely my biggest challenge to date, so I’m super-excited about it.”
While Rousey preps for the New Years’ fight, in the meantime, let’s get to know the woman poised to shake up the ring.
Aerobics led to Holm’s first fight
Though the New Mexico-native dabbled in athletics, the former soccer player admits that an aerobics class lured her towards a fighting future.
“I started aerobics to keep in shape, saw the (kickboxing) class, thought it looked pretty cool, so I thought I’d try it for one fight and see what it was like,” Holm explains.
Holm made her professional kickboxing debut in June 2002.
Holm boasts 9 KOs
Rousey definitely knows what she’s getting into as she’s undefeated in MMA.
Holm is a Hall-of-Famer
In June 2013, the 33-year-old fighter received her highest accolade to date: a spot in New Mexico’s Boxing Hall of Fame.
