Pakistan police hunt for Christian man who insulted Islam on WhatsApp

It’s no wonder a Pakistani man is on the run after insulting Islam on WhatsApp — he’s facing the death penalty if local cops catch up with him.

Pakistani officers in the small town of Sara-e-Alamghir were searching high and low Tuesday morning for Nadeem Masihm — a Christian man accused of committing blasphemy by allegedly sending his friend a poem deriding the religion using the popular messaging app.

Under the country’s blasphemy laws, a person accused of insulting Islam can be sentenced to death, but often the statutes are misused to settle personal vendettas and target minorities.

Last year, Muslims fatally beat a Christian couple and set their bodies on fire in a brick kiln for allegedly desecrating the Koran.
