Johnny Manziel: This is how I knew I was at rock bottom

Johnny Manziel says the party’s over.

A day after logging onto Twitter to frankly address his problems with substance abuse, the 24-year-old said he has gotten sober on his own, without professional treatment.

“I refuse to let my entire life of sports from the age of 4 be squandered by partying. I just got sick of it,” Manziel said Friday in a message to ESPN. “One day I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror and I realized I could really help people in the position I’m in.”

Manziel spiraled to rock bottom in 2016. He was charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley rental cars. He was cut by the Cleveland Browns last March after two fraught seasons.

Now, the Heisman Trophy winner is looking to resurrect his NFL career.

“I love sports, I love football and when you take something away from yourself you realize it the hard way,” he continued. “The happiness from doing it sober has been ASTRONOMICAL. Beyond my wildest imagination and once that continued other good things started happening in my life and it just clicked.”

Manziel seems to know how difficult it will be to prove to NFL teams he deserves another chance, after partying away his opportunity in Cleveland.
