Thousands of women in the Big Apple and around the world went on strike Wednesday to honor International Women’s Day — with some ending up in handcuffs during acts of civil disobedience.
The same group behind the Women’s March on Washington organized a nationwide “Day Without a Woman” to “highlight the economic power and significance that women have in the US and global economies.”
Thirteen protestors were arrested for blocking traffic outside of the Trump International Hotel in Columbus Circle during a rally that drew hundreds of women clad in red.
Ten of those arrested were Women’s March organizers who were leading the demonstration.
Around 2 p.m., the group tweeted a photo of the women happily huddled together in an NYPD paddy wagon.
“Meet us at 7th precinct (19 1/2 Pitt St) in Manhattan to show solidarity with our sisters who were arrested today,” the organization tweeted later.
