Ex-con charged with killing EMT has troubled, violent past

The ex-con accused of fatally mowing down a Bronx FDNY medic with her own ambulance is a Bloods gang member with a long history of violence and mental illness, officials said Friday.

Jose Gonzalez, who allegedly ran over 14-year department veteran Yadira Arroyo Thursday in the Soundview section, has 31 prior arrests for crimes including assault, robbery and weapons possession, according to police sources.

And cops have deemed him emotionally disturbed in three encounters since 2010 — most recently in June 2015 for acting “violent and erratic,” and before that in January 2014 for being “off his meds,” police sources said.

Gonzalez, 25, who goes by “Breezy Blood” as a member of the Bloods, is a loose cannon, said a man who lived with him at the Creston Avenue Residence, a homeless shelter in the Fordham section.

“You knew he had serious mental issues and different personalities,” said the 36-year-old resident, who has known Gonzalez for the last decade.

“He would talk to you about a million different things at the same time. Sometimes he would scream. When he was on his medication, he would make sense.”

The man said the state-funded shelter did not make sure that its residents kept up with their medication.

Volunteers of America-Greater New York, which operates the shelter, would not respond to the claim, but CEO Tere Pettitt issued a general statement.

“The Creston Avenue Residence provides a full range of supportive services that promotes housing stability and helps residents reach their personal goals and optimal potential,” she said.

“Volunteers of America-Greater New York joins with all New Yorkers in grieving the loss of Yadira Arroyo. We extend our prayers to her family and friends.”

Neighbors said they had seen Gonzalez making a scene outside the shelter.

“He was a weirdo,” said Clayton Wright, 28. “He’s walking around screaming, acting strange. Making a lot of noise, actively hopping up and down. That building’s a weirdo building.”
