Mom says killer was ‘stalking’ her daughter before murder-suicide

The mother of a young woman who was shot to death on a college campus said the killer was “stalking” her daughter — but she just didn’t suspect anything was amiss.

Adrian Victor Torres, 21, had been shadowing Janeera Nickol Gonzalez, 20, “for quite a while” before the slaying Wednesday at North Lake College in Dallas, Texas, “but she didn’t make anything of it,” Gonzalez’s mom, Lucia, told ABC affiliate WFAA.

The family told the news outlet that witnesses told them Torres had approached Gonzalez in front of an art exhibit before the shooting, saying, “You know who I am and you know why I am here.”

Torres shot and killed Gonzalez in a common study area at the college before fatally turning the gun on himself in a locker room shower in a nearby building, police said.

Gonzalez’s family said Janeera, who was studying kinesiology and planned to graduate in a few weeks, had never dated Torres and wasn’t even his friend.

“We’re not gonna see her again. She was a harmless girl,” her father, Juan, told WFAA.

Her mother said, “There is no justice for my daughter.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Gonzalez’s funeral expenses.
