Mayoral candidate slams rival for missing Celebrate Israel Parade

Just days after saying he’d skip the Puerto Rican Day Parade for political reasons, Republican mayoral candidate Paul Massey missed the Celebrate Israel Parade on Sunday for personal ones — and his primary opponent jumped at the chance to take him to task for it.

Massey’s absence during a prominent parade — and just as the mayoral race is heating up — led the campaign of rival Republican Nicole Malliotakis to question whether he has the dedication to be mayor.

“The fact that he is vacationing in the midst of a primary campaign shows that he isn’t serious, but the fact that he would skip the Celebrate Israel Parade and what it represents — a people and a nation united against terror — is sad and disturbing,” said Malliotakis campaign spokesman Rob Ryan.

Massey campaign spokeswoman Mollie Fullington told The Post he was on a “long-planned” trip with his wife to the place where they honeymooned in France 29 years ago.

“As a staunch supporter of Israel, he regrets not being there today, but thanks to technology he is in constant contact,” said Fullington, adding, “Family matters.”

Earlier this week, Massey said for the first time that he won’t participate in the June 11 Puerto Rican Day Parade for its inclusion of convicted felon Oscar Lopez Rivera, a leader of the FALN terrorist group during the 70s and 80s.

Prior to that, Massey had said he wouldn’t march but that he would still attend.

Assemblywoman Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) marched in the Israel parade Sunday but has said she’s skipping the Puerto Rican Day Parade because of its honoring of Lopez Rivera.

Also on Sunday, Mayor de Blasio canceled a political campaign rally outside his Brooklyn townhouse, a postponement his rep said was because of the critical injury suffered by an NYPD cop in Brooklyn late Saturday.​
