The Giants jettisoned Eli Apple for the remainder of the season. Now the question is: If they decide to permanently banish the former 10th pick before the final two years of his rookie contract, how much will that cost the Giants?
Apple is in the second year of his four-year, $15.1 million rookie contract that is fully guaranteed. The suspension, according to interim general manager Kevin Abrams, is for “a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team.’’ Many contracts include language that voids guaranteed money if the player is suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, and if Apple’s deal includes this language, the Giants could get out of the contract more easily, if they so desire.
