Eli Apple has clashed with coaches and teammates in a second season to forget with the Giants. He’s finishing it on suspension.
So the Giants are going to have to decide what to do with a 22-year-old cornerback who was the 10th overall pick in the 2016 draft. After Friday’s introduction of new general manager Dave Gettleman, co-owner John Mara said he would like to keep Apple. But that’s going to require further review.
“You don’t want to quit on talent,” Mara said. “… He’s a young guy. I happen to like him personally. I’m obviously disturbed with what’s happened this year. I thought he had a terrific training camp and I was really excited about him as a player coming into this season.
“So I think we have to figure out what’s going on with him. But I’d like at the end of the day for him to be a part of this team’s future. But I think that’s going to have to be a discussion with whoever the next head coach is and with Dave as well.”
