Child survivor of deadly crash says school bus went airborne

An 11-year-old boy who survived Thursday morning’s deadly New Jersey school bus crash said the bus went airborne during the nightmare collision that left at least two people dead — including a classmate.

“I heard a scraping noise and then the bus tilted over and a lot of people were screaming,” Theo Ancevski told The Post outside Morristown Medical Center. “The bus flew off the wheels and it hit the metal thing on the side of the highway.

“A lot people were screaming, and they were hanging from their seatbelts.”

Ancevski was one of about 50 students from East Brook Middle School in Paramus headed on a field trip to Waterloo Village when their bus collided with a red dump truck around 10:30 a.m.

“People got out through the windows and the emergency exits. I got out through the roof with the emergency exit,” Ancevski said. “It hurt a lot. My back moved awkwardly. I feel better now because they gave us vitamins and I took X-rays.

“I hope the others are OK.”

The gruesome smash-up along Route 80 near Stanhope left two people dead and several more injured, sources said.

The deceased included a student and an adult chaperone, NBC New York reported, citing sources.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The dump truck is registered to Belleville-based Mendez Trucking, which has a litany of recent safety violations.

“I hope the other kids are OK because we don’t have any information about them,” said Ancevski’s distraught dad, Pavle. “A couple of the kids upstairs, they were good, but it’s tough for every family.”
