WASHINGTON — The Yankees’ days in National League parks are over until they visit Citi Field next month, but Clint Frazier will be sticking around a while longer nevertheless.
Aaron Boone said after Wednesday’s latest washout at Nationals Park that the outfielder would remain with the Yankees instead of being sent back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Because the Yankees have played few games lately, their bullpen is well-rested and Domingo German is expected to be available in relief at least until Tuesday. As a result, they decided to keep an extra bat around — especially with lefties Danny Duffy and Eric Skoglund scheduled to pitch for the Royals on Saturday and Sunday.
Boone said Frazier would remain “for now” and the team will monitor how to use the roster “day-to-day. That’ll be a fluid situation. We’ll see how that plays out.”
The manager sounded as if he would start Frazier on Saturday against Duffy and stressed again the Yankees wouldn’t keep him around to be on the bench.
