Gary Sanchez may miss a game after exiting with right calf cramp

ARLINGTON, Texas — Gary Sanchez didn’t commit to being able to play Wednesday night after leaving Tuesday’s game with a cramp in his right calf.

“I feel good but I want to see how I feel [Wednesday],’’ said Sanchez, who left the 6-4 loss in the sixth inning after feeling the cramp running from first to second.

Austin Romine replaced Sanchez and hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning that made it a two-run game.

Following the defeat, the Yankees optioned right-hander Giovanny Gallegos to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after he worked two scoreless innings and threw 24 pitches.

If Sanchez can’t catch for several games it’s possible the Yankees could summon catcher Kyle Higashioka from SWB for catching insurance. If they feel comfortable with Sanchez going forward the Yankees could replace Gallegos with another pitcher.

Tommy Kahnle threw two innings for Single-A Charleston on Monday night and Boone said the report from pitching coach Larry Rothschild was that the right-handed reliever looked good on video.

“He will probably go again Wednesday and then we will be in the position to make a decision,’’ Boone said.

Kahnle has been on the DL since April 17 with right shoulder tendinitis that reduced his velocity and likely played into his 6.14 ERA in six games.

Manager Aaron Boone dropped Didi Gregorius from fourth to fifth in Tuesday night’s lineup against Hamels. Gregorius had been hitting third before going to fourth for Monday night’s 10-5 win in which he produced an RBI double after having one hit in his previous 48 at-bats.

The AL player of the month for April started Tuesday with two hits in 50 at-bats and went 1-for-4.
