Jets RB channels inner Beckham in butt-wiping TD celebration

CLEVELAND — Isaiah Crowell has some Odell Beckham in him … and not in the good way.

The Jets running back had a big game for the Jets in his return to Cleveland, where he played for four seasons before signing with the Jets this year. He scored two touchdowns in the disgusting celebration after the second one.

After scoring from the 2 with 7:54 left in the first half, Crowell celebrated by wiping the football on his butt and then throwing it into the crowd. That drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and surely will result in a fine from the NFL.

The celebration was reminiscent of Beckham celebrating a touchdown against the Eagles last year by pretending to pee like a dog. The Giants star was penalized for that act and fined $12,154.

CB Buster Skrine left the game in the first half with a knee injury and did not return. … WR Charone Peake, one of the Jets’ top special teams players, exited the game with a hamstring injury.

Safety Marcus Maye missed his third straight game as he still deals with a foot injury.

The Jets now have a long break before playing the Jaguars on Sept. 30, so maybe Maye can recover before then.

The other Jets inactives were: CB Derrick Jones, CB Juston Burris, G Dakota Dozier, TE Neal Sterling, DL Folorunso Fatukasi and OLB Josh Martin.

Thursday’s game with the Browns was the third game in 11 days for the Jets.

“It’s challenging, I think it’s more taxing for the players,” Jets coach Todd Bowles said before the game. “Having their bodies recover and everything else, but we knew what was on the schedule for a long time now so we tried to prepare and do the things that we had to do to get ready for it.”

Bowles and the Jets are looking forward to having a few days off after the Browns game. Bowles said he is not worried about the challenging start having any lingering effects.

“When I was in Dallas we had a Thanksgiving Day game every year. That counted, we played some games in a short amount of time,” Bowles said. “We get a mini break after this game. We’ll get rested up and be ready to go after this.”
