An off-duty NYPD cop accused of choking his ex-girlfriend — and sending her a terrifying picture of a noose — was released without bail Saturday and ordered to stay away from her.
Officer Keith Roman, 29, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on assault, harassment and other charges for allegedly grabbing his ex’s hand, punching her in the face and choking her during fights on May 16 and June 20, according to a criminal complaint.
She told police she also cut her foot trying to run away from Roman during the second altercation, when he allegedly used both hands to grab her throat.
After the fights, Roman left her a threatening voice mail on Sept. 7 saying she should watch her back and that he will “catch” her, the complaint states.
“You are going to turn around and I will be there,” Roman said in the voice message, according to the criminal complaint. “You do not know who you are messing with.”
Roman also texted her a picture of a noose hanging from a tree, the victim told authorities.
Judge Suzanne Melendez allowed Roman to be released on his own recognizance but filed an order of protection for the victim.
Prosecutors had requested $1,000 bail because Roman already has an open case from March, when he was busted for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
He’s due back in court on Oct. 15 for both cases.
