The wait is over, Wright on time.
The Mets officially activated David Wright off the 60-day disabled list Tuesday to begin their season-ending, Wright-career-ending six-game homestand. The Mets will play three against the Braves and then three against the Marlins, the second of which will be Wright’s night, as Saturday he will get the start at third base.
The 35-year-old has not played in a major league game since May 27, 2016. While he is not set to start any games other than Saturday’s, Wright may be used as a pinch-hitter, manager Mickey Callaway said.
Wright, sidelined for years by multiple surgeries and spinal stenosis, is stepping away after this goodbye.
