‘I have three jobs’: Ron Darling doesn’t want to be Mets’ GM

It looks like Ron Darling really doesn’t want to be the next general manager of the Mets.

Darling emphatically denied a report that said he would take a meeting if the Mets asked him about the GM job.

“I don’t. I have three jobs,” Darling said when asked by SNY broadcast partner, Gary Cohen, if he wanted to be the team’s next GM. “I work for three different networks. I don’t have time to work as a general manager, nor do I have probably the skills to do it.

“So folks, I’ll just be here between these two guys [Cohen and Keith Hernandez] for as long as I can do it.”

Cohen then asked Hernandez if he would like the top job, and the Mets great gave a typically blunt answer.

“Do you think I have the temperament to be a general manager?” Hernandez said. “I don’t think so. I’m very happy right here.”

John Ricco has been running baseball operations along with special assistants J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya since GM Sandy Alderson stepped down in late June after his cancer returned.

The Mets plan to hire a new general manager after the season, and the search is expected to include external candidates.
