President Trump was among the millions of Americans who tuned in to the testimony of Christine Blasey Ford — but he did it aboard Air Force One.
All of the televisions on the presidential jet carried Fox News’ live coverage of her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.
Trump was returning to Washington from New York, where he spoke at the UN, and boarded the plane during opening statements from Ford and the top Republican and Democrat on the committee.
The president has forcefully defended his Supreme Court nominee, describing Democratic opposition to Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation as a “big, fat con job.”
But Trump also left the door open to withdrawing the nomination if he believed Ford’s allegations.
“I’m going to see what’s said. It’s possible that they will be convincing,” Trump told reporters Wednesday.
Trump also postponed a meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
“The president spoke with Rod Rosenstein a few minutes ago and they plan to meet next week. They do not want to do anything to interfere with the hearing,” Sanders said.
Rosenstein, according to a New York Times report, suggested secretly taping the president in May 2017 and discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
Trump did not speak to Kavanaugh on Thursday, Sanders said.
