UWS teacher arrested for slamming a desk against student

An Upper West Side teacher was arrested Monday for physically assaulting one of his students in a classroom, cops said.

Jose Garcia, 50, allegedly pulled the chair from underneath a seated 15-year-old student at West End Secondary School on 61st Street near West End Avenue. Garcia, who works as a Spanish teacher according to his Linkedin page, then slammed a desk against the student, pinning him against a wall, cops said.

The alleged violent outburst happened Friday. Cops said the 15-year-old told the principal of the school Monday, and Garcia was arrested.

He was hit with assault and endangering-the-welfare-of-a-child charges, cops said.
