If Jon Gruden isn’t trading them, they’re retiring.
After 11 seasons, four spent with the Giants, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is calling it quits. The veteran cornerback abruptly announced his decision on Instagram Tuesday.
“Today i retire, today my nfl journey ends, and i thank god for keep me all these years,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “A kid with one kid and no college offers lasted 11 years in the NFL. I played in Super Bowls, pro bowls, n did many more in this leauge. I’m at peace with my decision. Y’all may not understand and that’s kool!!! I wanna thank everyone for their support. Never forget MR. Ooouu himself. Yessuh!!!”
His departure is just the latest blow for the Raiders under Gruden, who has already traded linchpins Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper in his first season as head coach. Now he’s had a player retire midseason under his watch, as Oakland struggles through a 1-6 season.
The 32-year-old defensive back signed in late August with the Raiders and had appeared in seven games, making eight tackles and forcing a fumble. A two-time Pro Bowler who appeared in two Super Bowls, he also played with the Broncos, Eagles and Cardinals. In 15 games with the Giants in 2017, he had 48 tackles.
