Venezuela announces ‘power rationing’ amidst national chaos

Venezuela plunged deeper into chaos Monday as millions were left without running water amid a series of blackouts, forcing President Nicolas Maduro to ration electricity and close schools.

The socialist strongman announced 30 days of power rationing after his government shortened the work day and kept schools closed due to widespread blackouts.

The measures are a stark admission by the government — which blamed repeated power outages in March on sabotage — that there was not enough juice to go around, and that the power crisis was here to stay.
