De Blasio is the least-liked Democratic candidate in 2020 race

Mayor de Blasio has taken the lead in one 2020 campaign category — most disliked candidate.

He has the highest negative rating among all 23 Democratic presidential contenders — as a staggering 45 percent of American voters don’t like him, a new Quinnipiac University poll revealed Tuesday.

“He’s been hammered by the late-night talk shows and I don’t think you can underestimate those shows as far as the impact they have on the how people feel about politicians,” said Quinnipiac analyst Tim Malloy.

On “The “Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon joked that ‘Bill de Blasio’s Presidential Campaign’ would be the new sitcom replacing ‘The Big Bang Theory’ that ended its 12-season run last week. And Stephen Colbert on his “Late Show” quipped that the mayor’s dismal poll rankings show “he’s got nowhere to go but home.”

Only 8 percent of voters across all parties like him, the poll found. The rest did not know enough to form an opinion. The mayor did little better among Democrats, with 12 percent.

The national survey — the first since de Blasio launched his 2020 campaign last week — found that fewer than 1 percent of voters would pick him as the Democrat to challenge President Trump.

“If you’re not even registering at 1 percent, you’ve got to take a hard look at what your future is,” Malloy said.

De Blasio met the polling criteria to enter the first Democratic debate in June by reaching the 1 percent threshold in three previous polls, but he also wants to get donations from 65,000 individuals, a second criteria that would ensure his place in the debate if too many candidates reach the polling threshold.

“It’s all about who’s going to give him the money to sustain a nationwide [media] blitz to get his name out there,” said Malloy. De Blasio has refused to say how much money his campaign has taken in.

Former VP Joe Biden was the only contender, either Democrat or Republican, with a clear positive ranking, as 49 percent of voters like him compared to 39 percent hold a negative view.

Meanwhile, 57 percent panned Trump’s performance and 38 percent approved, despite 71 percent saying the national economy is excellent or good.
